It’s been a month since the world erupted in protest over the murder of George Floyd and four months since the U.S. has gone into quarantine. Saying “we are forever changed” and “nothing will ever be the same” is hitting different now.

In the last month, we’ve partnered with numerous brands for our Juneteenth campaign, got featured in AIGA for our deisgn work, and re-launched our “Each One, Teach One” newsletter to create deeper relationships. If you haven’t already please subscribe here.

As the first day of July brings a widespread boycott of Facebook from major brands, FB stocks have plummeted. Brands such as Adidas, Ben & Jerry’s, Coca Cola and Verizon are not buying ads on Facebook for thirty days! 😱

CNN reported that “A civil rights coalition, which includes the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and the NAACP, launched the #StopHateforProfit campaign last week when it called on major corporations to put a pause on advertising on Facebook, citing the company's repeated failure to meaningfully address the vast proliferation of hate on its platforms.”

Marketers are tired of having the burden of sending copy and creative out into the world where people are hurting from racism and COVID-19, talk less of dealing with all of this in the age of Trump 🤦🏾‍♀️.

Let’s see how this boycott plays out. It’s not enough but it’s a start. Tackling systemic racism is going to take more than this. It’s going to take more than 30 days, more than weeks, months, or years.

We HIGHLY recommend the Schomburg Center's Black Liberation Reading List of 95 books to celebrate 95 years in existence!

“While no list can be complete, we wanted to include not just antiracist books, but those that describe Black Liberation in terms of history, poetry, and even joy,” - Kevin Young, director of the Schomburg Center.
