Creative Direction and Program Management
About The Project
The Live Inspired Project is a program to help Black and Latinx high school students identify what it is they are truly passionate about in life while learning the entrepreneurial and career opportunities that can spawn from it. For 10 weeks students are required to put together their very own magazine publication after conducting intensive research on three specific careers of their choice. At the end of the project, students create an industry-standard portfolio to present to their families and peers. The final products serve as an editorial sample to include in their college and professional portfolios.
Solution
As the program manager, my role was to see the program through from beginning to end and to reinforce the overall goal - to create the future of education. I was also responsible for editing each student’s 10 page portfolios by reinforcing design principles, checking for grammar and punctuation, and creating the final flat lay version to be printed for their showcase. I was also tasked with creating the vision for the program scaling it from one institution to another, to create more accessibility to the program in and around Greater Boston.
Implement quarterly email newsletters: To boost engagement, I created eye-catching newsletters, programs, & social assets to get the high school community involved and excited about the programming, which led to funding opportunities and community support.
Office Visits/Partnerships with Major Companies: I created a pipeline for students to gain internship and work opportunities through office visits to Facebook/Instagram, Google, Atlantic Records, OkayPlayer, and Twitter.
Results
Live Inspired Project alumni leveraged the experience to make informed decisions about their higher education while saving time and money. They’re pursuing majors aligned with their passions across various subjects. Engagement of the program increased by 110% year over year. Through the Live Inspired Project, students have traveled over 1,000 miles for career excursions at the most impactful tech and media companies in the world. Students were also equipped with 21st century skills such as graphic design, design thinking, and creating decks. Due to this work, my expertise on the future of work has been sought out by Gen Z platforms such as ESSENCE Girls United.
